Paper Cranes
This is a film about life and death and coming of age. In this work I wanted to ground my feelings for nature in humanity, the natural world becomes the salve for chaos. It is a diary piece describing the loss of a friend and the uncertainty of migration. Death is impossible to grasp and understand, its randomness making its certainty all the more terrifying. The loss of a friend as a child made me seek continuity in nature, as only there does death start to take on a value that justifies its existence. Shot with time lapse and stop motion, it took understanding my organic subjects like a shepherd with his flock. The Fungi and plants were my co creators,I had to collaborate with these organisms in order to achieve the shots I wanted. Filming through a microscope and depicting the familiar, but unfamiliarly framed, I hoped to engender the same curiosity I felt towards the organic as a child in the minds of my viewers.
